Born and raised in Atlantic Canada, Ms. Cowie completed a BFA in Media Arts (focusing on Film, Video, and Photography) at The Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. In 2000 she relocated to Toronto, where she established a photographic career. Here she had several solo photography shows and publishing her work in a variety of print magazines, such as Spin, Source, and Canada’s Walrus Magazine. While in Toronto, Ms. Cowie had the opportunity to work with VICE (Media), which soon led her to move to New York in 2005, where her career with the company has flourished over the past 15yrs.
In 2007 she helped launch VBT.tv, VICE's first online content channel (now Vice.com). She then went on to work as the Associate Producer to VICE founder Shane Smith on several projects including The Vice Guide to North Korea, and Vice Guide to Liberia. She has held the roles of Production Coordinator, Line Producer, Producer, Director, and Post Producer and she has extensive experience in both field and postproduction across a variety of work on VICE’s various platforms. Ms. Cowie has overseen production on various series, documentary content, music videos, as well as larger, feature length projects, advertising campaigns and commercials. She has worked alongside the likes of Director Spike Jonze and Lance Bangs, as well as great number of on-camera (and off-camera) talent and personalities.
More recently Ms. Cowie worked as a Producer for VICEonHBO and Vice News, until moving over to VICE TV in 2019, where she currently holds the position of a Senior Manager of Development & Alternative Programming.
